Please observe fire safety regulations when you are out and about. The hot climate in Portugal leads to extremely high fire risk during the season and it is down to everybody to minimize the chances of wild fires breaking out.

Do not throw cigarette butts out of the car window, leave garbage, especially glass by the roadside or campsite and report any smoke or fire incident to the local authorities.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can seek out the traditional butchers in Monchique to buy the best regional meat products (Chouriço and Murcela) directly from them.

We fully support the traditional commerce of our towns and cities, where you will find all kinds of shops and boutiques. However, we do understand you may want to browse through something a little more familiar.

  Please do not feed cats and dogs. They easily evoke the sympathy especially with children, but please remember that you are only here for a short time and the animals soon become used to being fed, which leaves them distraught when you leave. If you wish to help, there are a number of local associations that work to take care and re-home abandoned animals and strays and can even assist you in adopting.
